Russell Napier

Russell Napier, international market strategist, analyst and best-selling author. Napier has advised international companies on asset allocation since 1995, and been a part of the financial industry for over 30 years. Napier writes the bi-weekly report The Solid Ground Newsletter, in which he, among other things, predicted the Asian financial crisis in 1997. In 2006, he published the best-selling book Anatomy of the Bear: Lessons From Wall Street's Four Great Bottoms in which he examines what can be learned from a series of market downturns. The Financial Times named the book a cult classic while the CFA Institute described it as of interest for those who want to exploit patterns in the market cycle. In 2021, he published The Asian Financial Crisis 1995-98, in which he describes how debt from the crisis has affected the modern world. Napier graduated in law from Queen's University in Belfast and Magdalene College at Cambridge. In addition to his work and authorship, he is a fellow at The CFA Society in the UK and is the honorary president of Heriot-Watt University and The University of Sterling. Napier has also established the non-profit Library of Mistakes, which educates those interested in financial history.
